While searching Amazon Prime recently, I was pleasantly surprised to discover, of all things, episodes of Memphis wrestling in the video library. But there was even more content available for any connoisseur of both fantastic wrestling and bad wrestling: a collection of death matches between Cactus Jack and Terry Funk, some truly awful-looking wrestling movies I’d never heard of, and something called, Professional Gay Wrestling.
My first doubt was, “Is this Guarded for Work?”
But my second question was “Why male lover professional wrestling?” (Or “professional gay wrestling”, as it&#;s called, which led me back to my first question).
I mean, if male lover men want to observe guys with great bodies and revealing outfits grapple with each other, there are a number of other wrestling promotions out there &#; specifically, all of them.
Let’s face it &#; wrestling is a very gay sport, and has been since the days of the ancient Greeks. Those guys used to wrestle naked, which is just about the gayest thing two men can do short of having sex with each other.

When we first heard about a gay wrestling club in San Francisco we were like, those San Franciscans. Of course you have a unique club where dudes wear spandex and roll around trying to dominate each other with their mighty thighs. Then it occurred to us, isn’t that all wrestling clubs? Why does it matter that this one’s gay? Turns out gay sports clubs are a popular film of the athletic landscape.
We called up Roger Brigham, a coach at San Francisco&#;s Golden Gate Wrestling Club to inquire about the continued life of gay sports clubs in an increasingly same-sex attracted friendly world.
VICE: Perform we still need “gay sports clubs,” is it naive to assume that in a modern nature all clubs should be gay friendly?
Roger Brigham: Yes it is unsophisticated. There are still significant barriers to overcome. We&#;ve had this discussion many times with different clubs, because different clubs market themselves differently. Some place the fact that they’re gay right up front, where others you own to dig a minuscule bit further. After coming across Nyla Rose, he knew he found someone who could be a cornerstone of the promotion’s women’s division. “She’s a tremendous, strong, monster heel wrestler who bullies people,” said Khan, the son of Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan. “And I thought she reminded me of a female version of some of the big, bruising, badass wrestlers of my childhood.” But Khan was unaware of the history he made by adding Rose to his roster, as she became the first openly transgender wrestler to sign with a major American professional wrestling promotion. “I had no idea Nyla was trans,” he said. “I reflection Nyla was a great wrestler and when I establish out, I mind, ‘Well that’s amazing, too.’ I didn’t expect that, but it’s awesome.” Rose had built a call for herself by working for independent promotions in America and Japan.
