Hungary is a fascinating country that sits right in the heart of Pivotal Europe, sharing borders with Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovania, and Austria. A country that exists from an eclectic and tumultuous history of war and destruction, now sits as a modern and developed nation with a rich and vibrant culture. Its capital city, Budapest, is the heart of the nation that today has a very present and active LGBTQ+ community.

Hungary was once considered the meeting show of where “East meets West” which was separated by the Danube River that runs right through the center of Budapest. Gay Guide Budapest

Budapest "Paris of the East" has always been known as a gay metropolis in Eastern Europe. Beside bars, gyrate clubs, the famous baths and the cruising spots, there are politically active gay and lesbian groups operative in counselling and socialising activities, gay orientated AIDS-prevention, publication of male lover papers and broadcasting lgbtq+ radio magazines. A male lover switchboard takes care of the wishes and enquiries of gay tourists before, during and even after their stay. Since an annual Gay Pride event takes place in Budapest. All the gay places, except some baths, are in the centre of Budapest's Pest side, in the V., VI., VII. and IX. district. Buda is hilly and residential; Pest is flat and the lively part of the city. Major tourist sights are the Parliament, the Heroes Square, Opera, Basilika, Castle district, Matyas church, Fisherman's Bastion. The gay scene is not very differentiated: Everyone goes to the same bars and clubs, no matter what age or preferences. There are not certain bars for certain same-sex attracted sub-cultures (e.g. leather, rent boys, "chubbies", Asians

About Budapest and its gay life

The Hungarian capital Budapest, picturesquely situated on the Danube river and with a diverse architectural and cultural heritage of its centuries-old history, is one of the twenty most popular tourist destinations in Europe.

Budapest's cityscape is marked by influences from many parts and eras of Europe: from Ottoman-era Turkey and Habsburg-era Vienna to industrial-era English engineering and post-communist Berlin's 'ruin chic'.

Among the many sights of Budapest are, for example, the Buda Castle Palace and the Parliament Building, Fisher
