Algarve is a region in Portugal so it's only natural to be considered gay-friendly destination. In Portugal, the LGBT group is almost fully accepted and many laws have been granted to guard it! There is no reason at all to concern about harassments due to your sexual orientation!

There aren't any particularly renowned gay events or festivals happening in Algarve, but the local gay clubs and cafe sometimes organize some very good gay parties. So, it is not very hard to find a gay party when you visit Algarve!

Gay Beaches

There aren't any exclusively homosexual beaches in Algarve; there are several beaches though, usually nudist and isolated, which are more attractive to the LGBT community. The beaches that group the biggest amount of gay people are:

  • Praia Grande is one of the finest gay beaches in the region. It's the easiest available beach and it offers excellent swimming conditions! Extreme sexual actions aren't allowed!
  • Praia Verde is an appealing beach

    This gay beach is both referred to as Quinta do Lago or Faro Island, depending on how you get to it. The beach itself is a large stretch of beach running for several kilometres from Faro Island to Quarteira and further.

    The gay beach is located between Quinta do Lago and Faro Island beaches. This gay beach is set in the middle of a natural reserve and in Spring and early September, you will be able to see spectacular groups of moving birds and wild ducks. Also nearby lies Faro airport, making this beach a plane-spotter's paradise!

    The gay beach stretches for a long distance along a substantial sand dune crowned by feral vegetation and overlooking the inland salt river running parallel to the beach and separating the beach from the mainland (hence the beach also being called Faro Island, as the beach is only accessible by a bridge on both Faro and Quinta do Lago sides).
