I came to know the function of Gisèle Freund in an unexpected way. As a male lover woman and plant aficionado, I’ve often explored the homes and gardens of queer creative geniuses. On one memorable trip, I reserved a slot to tour the home and garden of the painter Frida Kahlo (–). From childhood, Kahlo resided in a house known as La Casa Azul in Coyoacán, a suburb of Mexico City. On one wall of her bedroom, I was struck by a black-and-white photograph of Kahlo taken late in her life, when her physical misery was intensifying. With a mantilla draped over her shoulders, her exposed hand bedecked with rings, she’s standing with a searching, reflective glance, a proud figure full of grace and sensitivity despite unremitting pain. On Oct 11, International Coming Out Day, the list of the TOP Out Executives was published. Number 17 on the list is Axel Freund, Head of Food Safety, Security and Infrastructure at LSG Collective, who made it onto the list of the most important lesbian, homosexual, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LBGTIQ) executives in Germany for the third time in a row as the only Lufthansa Group representative.
&#;I am haughty to have been a part of the list from the very inception in ,&#; says Freund. &#;I see it as a recognition of my efforts. LGBTIQ leaders must be visible and accepted; I want to support people to come out and stand up for themselves in the workplace&#;.

The George W. Gay Lecture is the oldest endowed lectureship at Harvard Medical University, and quite possibly the oldest medical ethics lectureship in the United States. The lectureship was established in by a $1, offering from Dr. George Washington Gay, an graduate of HMS. Gay gave Harvard the fund to provide an annual income to back lectures “to the advanced, or graduating classes in the Medical School upon Medical Ethics, and upon wise and proper methods of conducting the business of physicians, as relates to fees, collections, investments, etc.” The Gay Lectureship perpetuates his intense concern for the welfare of his patients and his appreciation of the constantly arising social and economic forces that impinge on medical care.
